Butler studied at the Yale University, where them/they received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in philosophy. After he degree, them/they began her doctoral studies and obtained them/they PhD  in 1978. Butler was already an activist in them/they student days; them/they still fights for equal rights for women and wanted to give women a much more important role (cf. Duignan 21). In one of them/they speeches, them/they mentioned that them/they do not identify herself as a woman, as them/they is non-binary. Judith Butler is currently engaged to Wendy Brown, also a feminist, and they have a son together. Beyond her activity of being an activist, them/they is teaching philosophy at the University of California. Moreover, them/they wrote several books dealing with diversity and, in particular, the role of women in our society. Them/They most well-known books are: "Bodies That Matter (1996)" and "Gender Trouble (1990)". Likewise, it must also be emphasized that them/they dealt with postculturalism in other books that focus on cultural as well as social science issues (cf. Butler 12).
