The Salvation Army is an evangelical Christian church, which was founded in 1865 by the Methodist minister William Booth and his wife Catherine Booth. Out of christian motivation the founders and their followers started to do charitywork in the streets of East London, helping the poor and the homeless. Mission Its message is, as they claim on their website, based on the Bible and motivated by the love of God. "Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination."[[1]]
