Where you write "The Rye House Plot of 1683 was a failed scheme to assassinate King Charles II of England as well as his heir, his brother James, the Duke of York (eventually James II)," other sources state "the Rye House Plot, which was a plan to assassinate King Charles II and his brother James (heir to the throne)" – or "The Rye House Plot of 1683 was a plan to assassinate King Charles II of England and his brother (and heir to the throne) James, Duke of York" (Wikipedia). There are only so many ways to succinctly describe the circumstances in an introduction, but the overlap is too big.
