Renaissance Painters in Tudor England

From British Culture

The term Tudor Artist relates to the presence of painters who created their work for the english court between 1485 and 1603 [1] Although numerous artworks were produced in the Tudor era, many of the artists names remain unknown [2] (p.3). This is because most of the paintings do not have a signature that would make an identification possible [3] (p.5. While many of the works from the Tudor period vanished over time, portraits are the biggest resource that art historians focus their research on today [4] (p.3). What remaining documents also reveal is that in the 16th century non only 200 non-migrant artists, but also foreign artists practiced their craft in Tudor England [5] (p.6)
