The poll tax, or officially called “community charge“, was an infamous tax introduced by Margaret Thatcher in 1988. Every adult, no matter how rich or poor, had to pay the same amount of charge. It was far too much to pay for millions of people in Britain and caused much outrage and many riots because of its unfairness. The poll tax is supposed to be the crucial reason for the fall of Margaret Thatcher in 1990.
