Prince George of Cambridge (George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, born 22 July 2013) is the first child and only son of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. He is third in line of succession, after Charles, Prince of Wales and his father.

FAMILY

George Alexander Louis of Cambridge is the only son of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. He has a younger sister, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge, who was born in 2015.

His paternal grandparents are Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales. From this marriage also comes his uncle, Harry, Prince of Wales.

His paternal great-grandparents are the Queen, Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

His maternal, untitled grandparents are Michael Francis Middleton and Carole Elizabeth Middleton, née Goldsmith.

LIFE

George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was born on the 22nd July 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, which is also the birthplace of his father and uncle.

He was baptized on the 23rd October, 2013 at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury within the closest family circle. At present, he lives with his parents and his younger sister at Ammer Hall in Norfolk.

Since January 2016, he attends the Westacre Montessori School near the family’s place of residence.

MEDIA ATTENTION

Prince George caught the special attention of the public even before his birth for several reasons.

Not only was he the first born child to the Duke and Duchess, but moreover the pregnancy was made public earlier than usual. Clarence House announced the pregnancy in early December 2012, when the Duchess was hospitalized at King Edward VII hospital in central London at twelve weeks of pregnancy as a consequence of pregnancy complications.

As his birth was the first birth of a British successor to the throne since 1984, it was eagerly awaited by the British nation. Media coverage from St. Mary’s Hospital began weeks before delivery of George. His name was announced on the 25th of July, two days after his birth.

In the following years, his public appearances were mostly limited to his visits of New Zealand and Australia during the family’s royal tour in 2014, his first public appearance in the United Kingdom at Buckingham Palace after his sister’s birth in May 2015 and the family’s royal tour to Canada and the USA in late 2016.

In August 2015, Kensington Palace demanded that no more unauthorized photographs of George should be published by global media.1
