John Arbuthnot

died February 27, 1735 in England

John Arbuthnot was a "Scottish mathematician, physician, and occasional writer"[1]. He was among Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope and John Gay one of the founders of the Scriblerus Club. Although he published mathematical, phyisical and literary texts, he is mostly remembered for his texts about John Bull, which later became a national symbol. As well as for his participation in writing the satire Memoirs of Martinus Scriblerus.
