Full name William Pitt, 1st Earl of Catham. Born 15 November 1708 in Westminster. Died 11 May 1778 in Hayes. Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1766 to 1768. He followed Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham in office. His successor was Augustus FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Grafton.

Pitt was descended from an influential and well known family. Furthermore he had a very sophisticated upbringing. He was entered as a gentlemen commoner at Trinity College, Oxford, attended two years at Utrecht University and did the Grand Tour, traveling through France and Italy.
